Welcome to the Biome Project Page! What is this project about? For this project, you will be gathering information on the following biomes: -
Deciduous Forest (Peoria, Illinois) -
Desert (Las Vegas, Nevada) -
Grassland (Chipata, Zambia) (include both savannahs and chaparrals) -
Rain Forest (Liberia, Costa Rica) -
Taiga (Churchill, Manitoba - Canada) -
Tundra (Barrow, Alaska) The reporting station designated for each biome is listed in parenthesis. What information do I need to gather? While in the library this week you will be gathering information on each biome by using available books, encyclopedias, internet websites, etc. You will be gathering the following information on each biome and posting this information on your biome data sheets: -
animal life -
plant life -
rainfall / temperature (monthly average for selected reporting stations) -
reporting stations -
additional climatic data -
misc. data on each biome (ex. latitude, longitude, etc.) How should I list my information? Your data sheets will be distributed in class to you. You will be asked to follow the following rules: -
Cite your sources used in gathering information (For direct assistance in creating your citations, go to Citation Machine at www.citationmachine.net ; -
List your citations at the bottom of the data sheet for the biome you are researching; -
Bibliography page will be included with your project; -
All measurements should cite units; -
Color your maps using map pencils; -
The pictures included in your book representing each biome may be drawn by hand (color with map pencils), computer generated, or you may cut & paste. How do I set up my climograph for each biome? We went over the directions on how to set up a climograph in class. If you need a refresher, go to the website listed below: http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/msese/earthsysflr/climograph.html Do not forget to print your information and include labels for your information. What should my final project look like? Great question! The order is as follows: ~Cover page: Your title is - "Biomes of the World." Include some type of artwork and your name/period ~Place your biome information in alphabetical order. Final biome page, WORD doc if you decided to cut/paste your plants and animals, and then your data sheet for the biome. ~Citation page listing all your sources. Where do I get information on biomes?
